Teaching Artist, Youth Arts Programs Center for Community Arts is currently seeking professional, practicing artists to teach quarterly classes as well as spring and summer camps for youth (5-14 yrs. old). The ideal candidate will be motivated, energetic, have a strong professional background, and a passion for teaching in a community setting. We are currently seeking teaching artist in the following areas:
Ceramics - Hand building and wheel throwing·
Performing Arts - Theater, dance and music·
About Center for Community Arts For over 40 years, Center for Community Arts, a division of the City of Walnut Creek’s Arts + Rec Department, has been a regional center of arts learning -- promoting new visions, supporting exploration, stimulating creative thought and encouraging self-expression. We bring high-quality visual and performing arts instruction and educational experiences to participants of all ages. Last year more than 8,000 adults, youth and children enjoyed beginning through professional level classes and programs at the Civic Park, Heather Farms, and Shadelands campuses, as well as at Tice Gym and area schools.
Key duties:· Design and implement course curriculum in your discipline (2-10 weeks depending on program)· Provide individualized guidance and support for students with a range of skill and abilities· Work closely with Center for Community Arts’ Program Coordinator to implement the design and delivery of classes
Ideal candidates:· Have a BA or MA in the field from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience· Experienced as a teaching artist in a classroom/community setting· Able to articulate critical thinking and other creative processes in the arts· Excellent communicators with strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills· Working artists with a strong body of work
Hours and Compensation: This is a contract position; compensation is based on the number of classes taught per session.
