Description: Under the direction of the Elementary School Principal, the Art Teacher provides engaging, rigorous, culturally and socially relevant, standards-based art instruction to students in grades K-5. The Art Teacher will implement an articulated K-5 course of study that adheres to the Visual Arts Content Standards for California Public Schools, aligns with the National Core Arts Standards, and includes the following: multi-media visual art making, literacy components connected to studio practice and art history, assessment of student work over time, and opportunities for exhibiting artwork. The Art Teacher will collaborate with classroom teachers to provide studio art time that is connected to students’ learning experiences in science, social studies, math, and English language arts. Teaching Duties and Responsibilities: ● Create and maintain an effective environment that engages and supports all students with opportunities to advance artistically and cognitively, develop selfexpression and self-confidence, and experience accomplishment in the arts ● Understand and organize art subject matter in a coherent, articulated manner where instruction is planned thoughtfully, aligned to the Visual Arts Standards, and designed for all students to access ● Provide differentiated instruction that allows for experiences and avenues to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles and abilities, including students with disabilities and students who are gifted in visual arts ● Communicate and collaborate with colleagues and supervisors regularly while sharing plans, projects, and information as well as participating in grade-level, staff, and planning meetings ● Assess and report student learning by evaluating student work after communicating specific expectations and using student feedback to inform and improve arts instruction ● Teach students to evaluate their own work in pursuit of improved performance ● Continue to engage in professional development Qualifications: ● Valid CA Single Subject Art Teaching Credential with English Learner authorization (or equivalent) ● Knowledge of assessment practices in the arts ● Successful experience working with elementary students ● Alameda County Office of Education Integrated Learning Specialist Program Certificate (preferred) or agreement to complete the course requirements and additional hours required to earn the ILSP Certificate (tuition paid by PUSD)
